Did you know that a diamond is unpolished in it’s natural state?  When removed from the earth, a diamond is typically rough and rounded.  Raw and uncut, diamonds lack the extravagance of the ones in the jewelry commercials, and appear rather ordinary.  A diamond’s true beauty isn’t realized until after going through the cutting and polishing process.  After this process is complete, and light passes through the rock, a diamond sparkles as if bragging about it’s beauty that was just found but has always been there.
Do you remember what you were like; what you life was like; before accepting Jesus into your life?  Maybe you’re reading this and you don’t know Jesus; think about who you are and where you life is right now.  You might be in the same place most Christians were before knowing Jesus; hopeless, insecure, searching for meaning.  Wondering if there is more to life, and hoping that someone would notice you in your pain and frustration.  You and the diamond have something in common.
You see, like a diamond found in the earth, you appear unpolished, raw and uncut, rough and rounded.  To some people, including yourself, you appear rather ordinary.  But underneath all that rough exterior, there is someone more amazing that you can imagine.  Just like the diamond, you have unrecognized and unrealized beauty.  Maybe you want to continue in the way you’ve been going, hoping you can break this exterior, or maybe you’d like to consider the words of Jesus;
I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
When you choose to allow Jesus into your life, and you pursue getting to know Him by reading the Word of God; your cutting and polishing begins.  It’s not overnight, but little by little, you will make progress.  Eventually, just as the light passing through the diamond shows brilliance and beauty; the light of Jesus will shine through you. Your life will “…shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
You are a “Diamond in the Rough”, Someone that has hidden, exceptional characteristics and future potential, but currently lacks the final touches that would make you truly stand out from the crowd.  Make a commitment; the first commitment or a renewed commitment.  Acknowledge that you are nothing without God.  Pursue Him, ask Jesus to enter into your life and be the final touch that would make you truly stand out from the crowd.
