Community Group Homework
For the week of May 7, 2017
1. What is your favorite trip or vacation that you have taken? Why?
2. Best place to swim: pool, river, lake, or ocean?
Looking back at your notes from this week’s teaching, was there anything that particularly caught your attention, challenged or confused you?
TALK ABOUT IT
One of the biggest regrets people have at the end of their life is, “I wish I’d had the courage to express my feelings.” Things left unsaid and feelings left unexpressed impact us at the end.
Who are the four most important people in your life? (Your kids combine to count as 1). If you were losing any of these four tomorrow, what one thing would you say to them today?
There are many ways to communicate your commitment and value to another besides words, name a few? (e.g. providing a secure home environment)
While there are many ways to express our love toward another, the clearest way is through words. We are going to look at what the Bible says about words of encouragement.
READ: Ephesians 4:29-32
List the commands Paul gives for what NOT to say and what you SHOULD say.
Since grieving the Holy Spirit is in the context (the message of the verses before and after it) of the words we speak to others, how do we grieve the Holy Spirit?
What does 4:29 tell us about how to measure the words that we say and don’t say?
READ: Colossians 4:6 (ESV) Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
READ: Hebrews 10:24–25 (NLT) Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.
Salt was used to preserve meat as well as bringing out avors. How can our words both preserve a relationship and make them more encouraging?
Do you look at friendships more for how they will benefit you or how you can benefit them or both?
How can you find ways to deepen your relationships that you value the most?
What is one thing you can pray for and encourage each of your most valued relationships for this next week?
What would it take for each of the four you listed above to know how they contribute to your life?
WRAPPING IT UP
Are there any needs that we can pray for tonight?
